Congratulations to me for having this username for five years. That's a record. I used to make a new journal every few months.

I was gonna update this with much happier stuff, but for the past week I've just been so enraged with LJ's asshattery that I've had it to here.

In case you didn't know, on 12/12 they first announced sneakily on the Russian journal of LJ's design guy that with new changes being implemented tomorrow, there will be no more subject lines in comments and that this change was "non-negotiable" (good round-up and translation here). I'm sure you all realize that this will basically make fandom and RP communities unusable. LJ's staff, however, doesn't give a shit. At least 18 pages of 100% negative feedback didn't sway them.

They've backpedaled some and will make keeping comment subject lines optional in some S2 styles, but the default (that 99% of communities are running right now) will decidedly be subject-less! Not to mention that their new and frankly, fucking ugly design will take forever to load and make the site a pain to use on mobile browsers.

And oh, it looks like they might be taking away the drop-down menu to select icons as well, so you'll have to load all your icons as pictures to select them. Lovely. (I will beta-test tonight to see if this is actually true.)

Really, I don't know why I'm surprised. LJ is always fucking with the parts of the site that actually work and breaking them, so this is just another instance of that. Because seriously, who are subject lines hurting by just being there? (And no, it can't be a matter of server strain, considering the new "graphic" interface will definitely be using up more resources - so much fun when there's DDoS attacks!)
As far as I know, they've never once listened to their customers, so those thousands of comments already posted probably won't do shit. I've left a message expressing my concerns about the new comment pages here anyway; so if you want to do that too, go for it! If anything, it helps with the rage. ;)

FYI: Dreamwidth is feeling Christmasy has reacted to LJ's bullshit and has open account creation (no invite codes needed) for the rest of the week. Might be a good idea to get your back-up or new home, whatever the case may be, up and running now.

To sum up, in my own ( [personal profile] neotoma) words: as of tomorrow, no more subject lines for comment in S1 styles at all, possibly some subject lines in S2 if you know to do it, and no more drop-down menu for icons.

so when you got your license, what were your two proofs of identity? One is obviously my learner's BUT I need a second one. If my birth certificate if from the state I can use that because I don't think it's from the hospital....

WHY IS THIS SO COMPLICATED. I JUST NEED MY LICENSE.

Also I don't get why they won't accept a birth certificate issued by a hospital?

Feel free to unfriend me. I'm not really using this anymore, minus a few communities. I'd be lying if I said I consistently looked at my friends' page.

But I really do like and enjoy some of you, those of us that do (or at one time) kept in touch!

If anyone's wondering, we did get a new greyhound. His name is Reid and he's from the same track in West Virginia that Echo came off of. I looked him up and turns out they had the same owner. I would love it if they knew each other on the track and here they are, reunited. We're thinking they're related because albeit Reid has about ten pounds and more than a few inches on Echo, they have similar markings (both brindle).

He's probably about eighty pounds, his legs are 29 inches, he loves to run and jump and give kisses (before or after cleaning the litter box for you, doesn't matter). He likes to swim! I love that we finally have a dog that loves water! Stampede, Alex and Bruno hated it and Echo shakes when I give him a bath.

Unfortunately, since the three dogs before this were abnormally smart I guess we were due for run-of-the-mill ones intelligent-wise. So, yeah, they're not very smart. Reid ate the Directv remote the other day and Echo is enjoying having a buddy that will get him stuff he can't reach (such as a FULL LOAF OF BREAD!) There are clear differences and that's been an adjustment. It's still quite surreal to me that this time last year, both Alex and Bruno were here and now, there's a brand new set. It doesn't seem right and when I think about it, I cry. It's not that I don't love Echo and Reid, I do and they're very entertaining but Alex was with us for about nine years and Bruno for about five and they were Alex and Bruno. Our Halloween Dogs, Alex with his red fawn coat and Bruno with his black. Alex, who I taught to climb stairs; Bruno, who bit me in the eye; both who we tried to save with medication and endless amounts of love. But they're not here anymore and that breaks my heart more than I will ever be able to put into words.

This well-written, amazingly acted and survivor of a show returns Tuesday, January 4 at 10PM (repeats at 1AM).

Thank you, TNT, for this wonderful birthday present.

ETA: Benjamin Mckenzie went to UVA (majored in foreign affairs and economics; smart boy). Another celebrity with roots in Virginia!

Your face has changed
I hardly know who you are this time
And what a mess I've made of you
You probably would but I won't let you runaway
You probably should but I won't let you runaway this time

Don't be afraid of loneliness some refugee beside itself
Instead of what you've got
You probably would but I won't let you go away
You probably should but I won't let you go away this time
